A wastewater treatment plant is subject to different variations. Changing influent flow rates and loads can heavily disturb the functioning of the system. A traditional way of solving this problem is to increase the size of the reactors.
EPAS can do better. Advanced control can eliminate the influence of variations in wastewater production and load. This way, a more stable treatment process can be obtained without oversizing the treatment plant, or, a substantial increase of reactor volume can be avoided when wastewater production increases.
Furthermore, the dosing of chemicals for pH correction, sedimentation and (micro-)nutrient addition can be automated, avoiding a substantial overdosing and concentration fluctuations of chemicals.
